Zambia Secures Qualification for Paris 2024 Olympics in Dramatic Fashion

Zambia’s women’s national football team, the Copper Queens, secured a hard-fought qualification in the 4th and final round of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualifiers. The team battled to a 3-3 draw against Ghana in the second leg of the third round on Wednesday, February 28.

The match was a true back-and-forth encounter. Zambian captain Barbra Banda opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but Assifuah equalized for Ghana just a few minutes later (22nd minute). Both teams went into halftime with the score level. In the second half, the Black Queens took the lead through a goal from Doris Boaduwaa (55th minute). However, Zambia equalized instantly (61st minute). Determined, the Ghanaian team added another goal in the 64th minute. Zambia then scored a late equalizer in the 94th minute, securing the 3-3 draw.

This result was enough for Zambia to progress to the 4th round, as they had won the first leg in Accra (1-0). In the next round, the Copper Queens will face the winner of the match between Morocco and Tunisia. The team is aiming for their second consecutive qualification to the Olympic Games.
