Zamalek, the Egyptian football club, has recently been hit with a transfer ban due to unpaid wages owed to former attacker Khalid Boutaib. Boutaib, who is currently playing for Pau FC in the French Ligue 2, joined Zamalek in January 2019 for a transfer fee of €1.5 million. However, just a year later, he left the club without any transfer fee.
During his time in Cairo, Boutaib scored five goals in 24 matches and was a part of the Zamalek team that won the 2019 CAF Confederation Cup. After his departure, Boutaib filed a complaint with FIFA against Zamalek, demanding payment of his outstanding wages, which have been pending for four years. The Court of Arbitration for Sports has ruled in Boutaib’s favor and ordered Zamalek to pay a total of €2.4 million, including a fine of over €1.9 million and the remaining amount as compensation for the delay in payment.
