World Athletics has revealed the prize money for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics this Wednesday. Each winner in an athletics discipline will receive $50,000, announced Sébastien Coe, the president of the International Association of Athletics Federations.
While it is impossible to assign a monetary value to an Olympic medal, Sébastien Coe believes it is important to ensure that medal-winning athletes are fairly compensated. He stated, ‘It is important to ensure that a portion of the revenue generated by our athletes at the Olympic Games is directly returned to those who make the Games the global spectacle that they are.’
However, silver and bronze medalists will not be rewarded by World Athletics. Coe assured that starting from 2028, any athlete who finishes on the podium will receive a prize.
