Toulouse and Toulon Fined for Lack of Financial Transparency in Cheslin Kolbe Transfer

Toulouse and Toulon have been fined by the French National League (LNR) for a lack of financial transparency in the transfer of South African winger Cheslin Kolbe, the World Cup winner. Toulouse has been fined €50,000 while Toulon will have to pay €70,000 for ‘non-compliance with the general obligation of transparency and cooperation’ related to the salary cap, according to the LNR. Cheslin Kolbe left Toulouse to join Toulon in August 2021, with the Var club paying between €1 and €1.5 million to buy out the remaining two years of his contract and also increasing his salary. Kolbe has since flown to Japan following the Springboks’ victory in the 2023 World Cup.
