Amir Abdou, the coach of Mauritania’s national team, recently spoke about their chances in Group D of the upcoming CAN tournament. While acknowledging that Mauritania is not the favorite, Abdou remains optimistic about their prospects.
When asked about how he sees the team in their group, Abdou responded, « We are considered outsiders. Algeria is the clear favorite, no doubt about it. Burkina Faso has consistently reached the quarter-finals or semi-finals. These teams are regulars at the CAN. Our goal is to be the surprise package along with Angola. We aim to disrupt the predictions and have a successful campaign, avoiding the disappointments of the previous editions where we failed to win a single match. Our objective is to challenge the top teams and hopefully reach the round of 16. »
