The coach of Benin and former coach of Nigeria, Gernot Rohr, has shared his perspective on the development of the Super Eagles since his departure. According to him, ‘They haven’t really made the progress they thought they would when I was asked to leave. It’s more about the players I left behind and a playing style that wasn’t the best in the AFCON.’
Rohr, who is in the same (C) group for World Cup qualifiers as Nigeria, believes that the team is favored to qualify. Despite being in 3rd place after 2 matches with 2 draws, he says, ‘They are only two points behind the group leaders, Rwanda, and that’s a disadvantage they can overcome… We cannot underestimate a team with the quality of the Nigerian team. Every team in the group knows that.’
The two teams will meet on June 10th for the 4th matchday.
