Sébastien Desabre, the coach of DR Congo, has announced a 24-man squad for the upcoming 2023 AFCON. Despite CAF allowing up to 27 players, the Leopards’ manager has provided reasons for this choice.
« We are following a player management strategy. I did not want to select players who would not get playing time, while their clubs still need them in January. It could have been detrimental to them. Furthermore, we have until January 3rd to add players, and until January 16th (our first match is on the 17th against Zambia) to replace injured players. I believe that the current number of players is sufficient for my tactical plan and for managing the team throughout the competition, » he explained in an interview with RFI.
