Didier Drogba, the former captain of the Ivory Coast national team and a legend of African football, has expressed his hope for his country to win the Africa Cup of Nations. Despite losing in two previous finals, Drogba believes that this year, with the tournament taking place on home soil, Cote d’Ivoire has the opportunity to secure its third title, following their victories in 1992 and 2015. « We are ready for the battle, being the host nation, we not only have to show that we can host the competition but also deliver a stellar performance, » Drogba said in an interview with the CAF website. The former striker added, « Cote d’Ivoire is facing its responsibilities and needs to perform. All the teams participating in the tournament deserve to be here, and it’s our duty to not only respect them but also show that we can compete against them. »
Currently positioned third in Group A with 3 points, behind Equatorial Guinea (4 pts) and Nigeria (4 pts), Cote d’Ivoire will play their final group stage match against Nzalang on Monday.
