The FIFA has confirmed that the Congo national team has been declared forfeit for the World Cup 2026 qualifiers match against Niger. The Congolese team failed to appear in Kinshasa for the scheduled match, citing a diplomatic dispute with the Niger Football Federation. As per FIFA’s decision, the match is recorded as a 3-0 loss for Congo, and the Congolese Football Federation has been fined 10,000 CHF.
While the Congo team has the option to appeal the decision, their chances of qualifying for the World Cup are already slim with only one point in the group. Niger, on the other hand, has secured 6 points and is now in second place in Group E, behind Morocco with 9 points.
