Alex Iwobi has not been spared by many Nigerians after the loss in the AFCON final against Cote d’Ivoire. The former Arsenal player has been targeted with attacks and insults on social media. On Monday, February 12, Ahmed Musa stepped up to defend his young compatriot.
‘It is hypocritical to say that football unites us while adopting such behavior. Losing a match is undoubtedly difficult, but targeting only one player for the team’s shortcomings is unfair and unjust. We win and lose as a team. Alex gave his all on the field, like all the other team members. Instead of spreading hate, let’s show love and support to our players,’ he said on X.
The Nigerian veteran also did not fail to mention that harassment is a crime. ‘Cyberbullying is not only a violation of decency, it is also a serious crime,’ he revealed. Alex Iwobi also received endorsements from Victor Osimhen and William Troost-Ekong.
